thirty seconds to mars
La
banda fue creada en 1998 por Jared Leto (guitarra y voz), y su hermano Shannon
Leto (batería), 30 Seconds To Mars comenzó como un pequeño proyecto familiar.
Las cosas funcionaron con rapidez y pronto Matt Wachter se unió a la banda como
bajista al igual que Solon Bixler (guitarra) y Kevin Drake (guitarra) harían,
aunque la permanencia de éste último sería bastante menor.
Aunque Jared Leto es un conocido actor de Hollywood, prefiere no usar esa información para promocionar la banda; de hecho, el grupo rechazaba tocar en lugares en donde se utilizará su nombre como actor para promocionar el show.
De acuerdo a una entrevista de Virgin Records, el nombre de la banda proviene de una tesis escrita por un profesor de Harvard. Una de las secciones de la tesis fue titulada "30 Seconds To Mars", habla sobre el crecimiento en la tecnología humana diciendo que literalmente estamos a 30 segundos de Marte. Para la banda eso significa, en resumen, la mejor manera de describir su música.
